When you make the decision for an upgrade or additional component to your RV, you’ll never look back and wish you hadn’t. 

Anti-flap kits – There have been some fantastic developments with anti-flap kits in recent years. These can make it incredibly easy to erect an awning and create a much better seal than others, meaning that it stays warmer, dryer and cosier. Also, as the name suggests, they decrease the amount of flapping on a windy day, so your experience can be much more relaxing 

Screw-in pegs – Considering the pegs that you use to keep your awning down is very important. We recommend long screw-in pegs. They are much less likely to be lifted out of the ground if somebody trips on the awning or the weather takes a turn for the worst. These pegs are sure to increase your confidence in an awning’s stability. 

Solar power – Buying a small solar set-up to go on the roof of your awning is an excellent idea for additional phone charging or plugging in a speaker. Why use the battery’s power when you don’t need to? If you are out boondocking, solar panels are highly recommended. 

Awning rafter – Unfortunately, you can’t control the weather, but that doesn’t mean you should avoid camping altogether. An awning rafter is a small tool that gives a curve to your awning. This means that when it rains, you won’t get puddles building up, which can potentially rip or damage your awning.

As well as things that can increase the longevity of your awning and improve its resistance to the elements, it is equally as essential to staying comfortable. Certain additions to your awning can create a much cosier camping trip. Below we will discuss a few of our favourite hacks that dramatically improve an awning’s comfort. 

Floor matting – Annex floor matting can change the complete feeling of an awning. It is soft underfoot and makes your awning feel more like a home. As well as this, it will prevent your RV from getting too dirty throughout your trip. Finding a comfortable floor solution can really enhance your awning space, turning the outdoors in. 

Strip lights – The increasingly popular and helpful LED strip light has made many campers’ dreams come true.  These lights can come at any length and are super simple to stick up. They consume very little power and can improve a night of chilling out in the awning. It is surprising how much visibility is enhanced with something so tiny. This will allow you to read a book, write, play games, and much more after the sun has set. 

Furnishings – It is best to keep your awning furniture to a minimum to maximise the space. We often see piles of stiff, uncomfortable seats piled up over the years in people’s RVs, but why not invest in something a little different that you will enjoy relaxing on? These days you can find great self-inflating sofas and seats. You can also find some next-level camping chairs with side tables and drink holders. This will save even more space when you’re all relaxing in the awning. 

Turf mats – These are great little things with Velcro on the back that can be attached to your alloy steps or left at the entrance of your awning. They help keep the dirt out of your chill-out zones, maintaining a cosy and comfortable habitat for your camping adventure. Also, they look cool and add a bit of personality to your camping set-up.

Bike racks and surfboard stands – If you enjoy taking your bicycles or boards camping, you will know how much space they take up. Buying a good storage solution for these will seriously add to the comfort of your awning. If you don’t have an appropriate place to store them, you will find that your awning is soon transformed into something more like a garden shed that’s only purpose is storage.

There are many storage solutions for awnings. You can get nets and pouches that attach to the exterior wall of your RV and are a great place to store your odds and ends throughout the day. You can also find some pretty nifty storage boxes that utilise spaces you would never typically use.
